| Set of fairy tale collections, circa 1960 |
[Jul. 18th, 2008|11:14 pm] |
I'm hoping someone can help me find this set of books we used to have. I loved them as a child, but I have no clue what happened to them.
It's a set of two, maybe three, fairy tale and nursery rhyme books, published in the '60s, maybe late '50s or early '70s. I remember a few fairy tales and nursery rhymes that were definitely in them. I know for a fact that "The Lion and the Unicorn" was in one of them, as was the riddle "As I was coming from St. Ives," and the fairy tale "Snow White and Rose Red." The books themselves were hardcover, about 8 inches tall and 5 inches wide. I'm almost positive the covers were cloth-covered and had details done in red on the cover. The book also had a limited number of black and white illustrations.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. |

[Jul. 19th, 2008|01:28 am] |
I'll keep most of this behind the cut, but the "grand" prize is a full set of GUD, hardcopy, to date. That's 800 pages of short and long form fiction of all sorts, and poetry and the odd article and art from all over. :)

Midterms: Of course they asked the essays I least wanted to write. But I think I did alright. Decently on AMH. AFH I kinda wish I'd been more prepared.
Work: Today was nice. Happy.
Tokens: I got them ALL finished. Plus Katie gave me a couple cute little boxes for the two special ones. And I got a note to HRM to go with them written. And Mama Sheeps is taking them down to Grainne for me.
Chillaxing: I went to see "Mamma Mia" with Teagan and Katie tonight. I really liked it. I want to take mum to see it. When our tickets were taken, I realized as I walked through that the ticket-taker was someone I knew once. Someone I don't have happy feelings about. But it's over. And it doesn't matter. And the movie rocked!
Well, sleepy time! G'night! |

| No Control by Shannon K Butcher |
[Jul. 18th, 2008|07:09 pm] |
Publisher: Grand Central, 2008 Genre: Romance Sub-genre: Suspense

Cross-posted from genrereviews.
No Control features some of the same characters and similar themes as Butcher's No Regrets from 2007 and No Escape, to be released in October, but they don't seem to be marketed as a series. Which seems an odd choice to me, since series seem to be huge right now, but each of the books stand alone very well, so maybe they just wanted to skip all the confusion of people wondering if they had to start near the beginning or if they could just delve into the volume they held in their hands. (She says, as if she knows anything about it...)
The cover is certainly less embarrassing than the romance standard clinch cover, a faded, confusing jumble of blue arms and legs. Which is great. Smurf loving just doesn't get enough coverage, you know?
( La la la la la la, it's a happy song... ) |

Hi. I know everyone's posting for sale posts, so I'm sorry that I have another one. I would just put it all on craigslist but I feel more comfortable on here than craigslist. Anyways, I have a few things for sale. A Sunbeam propane grill with side burner (propane tank included), a bookshelf, an espresso side table, dvd racks, a leopard print moon chair, and a bed. If you're interested in anything, feel free to comment here with your email or email me at junkbondtrader@gmail.com

| House of Leaves |
[Jul. 18th, 2008|01:34 pm] |
Has anyone read this book before? Its author is Mark Z. Danielewski, I believe. It is extremely strange but I'm enjoying it a lot so far. If you're a fan of horror or disturbing things I would recommend it. I mean, it's a very peculiar type of horror, but it's the first book in years that's actually scared me.
I'll write a review when I'm done reading it. It's kind of large, and I'm about a quarter of the way done.
Basically it's a split narrative involving someone who finds this large document and begins to sort of read/sort through it, and the document itself (which is about a filmmaker and his family who move into a house that is "bigger on the inside than it is on the outside").
I dunno, check it out if you like! Or tell me what you think if you already have! |
