I've been going to Kazbor's for Wednesday Night Trivia. 'Tis fun. The group I'm with usually places in the top three, though usually with no help from me. :)

I rocked tonight, though - lots of pop culture questions. Lots of baseball, too. I didn't do so well on those.

So, for your amusement, here are the questions I remember. Can you answer them? Don't look 'em up!

1. How many home runs did Josh Hamilton hit during the first round of the Home Run Derby?
2. Who sang "Girl You Know It's True?"
3. Where did the Yankees play before Yankee Stadium?
4. Where do the Devil Rays play, and what were its other names? (Three names total)
5. What three states were independent republics before joining the United States?
6. Who was the hero in To Kill a Mockingbird?
7. What emperor leagalized Christianity?
8. What Great Lake is the smallest in surface area?

...more if I can think of 'em.

I read this in a book about mostly-unknown historical tidbits:

The Supreme Court ruled that the state of Missouri cannot discriminate against the Ku Klux Klan when it comes to groups that wants to participate in the adopt-a-highway program. The state erected a sign proclaming that stretch of highway was being cleaned by the Ku Klux Klan, and renamed the highway the Rosa Parks Freeway.

<div class="ljcut" text="And it must be true!
I is a commercial!

I was a walking iPod commercial over the weekend. The song Let the River Run has been going over and over and over in my mind, so I put on the headphones and listened to it while doing a lyrical dance in my kitchen. All I needed was my shadow to dance with me.

I've only had the iPod for a week or so, and I finally got around to organizing my playlists in iTunes. So I plugged in my iPod and it synched. I unplugged it. Then I realized I hadn't completely charged the battery. I cleared the checkboxes on all the songs so it wouldn't automatically synch my iPod again. And it didn't. It erased everything on my iPod instead. Which I didn't discover until I went to listen to tunes at work today.

*sigh*

What do you all use for song organization? And how to I get iTunes to stop trying to figure out what I want on my iPod?

Hee.

At the beginning of June, someone asked me for a document. I forgot to change out the copyright page, which she mentioned in an email. I responded with *facepalm* and the corrected document.

About two weeks later, she thanked everyone for their help on the project, and included this: If I have forgotten to name anyone in this “village”, please accept my apology for the oversight. I’ll express a new term I learned - *facepalm*.

Hee. I taught her something new!

THEN I got this: No one else in the room that day knew what it was, so we Googled it. I told my 20-year old daughter the story that afternoon on our way home and her reply “You don’t know what that means?!? I use that all the time. Geez, Mom, you’re so old!” I wanted to tell her to get out of the car (and I wasn’t going to slow down first).

You know, I'm really not surprised that no one in that office knew what it meant. But it was still funny. :)

Well, am I, punk?">Well, I like to sing. And since not getting cast in Secret Garden, I have some extra time on my hands. I did a bit more research, and saw it was a Sweet Adelines group (gainesvillechorus.com). Okay. I've considered joining them in the past. My cousin sings with them in south Florida. Now's my chance for a six-week introduction.

Babershop singing was way weird for me. :) I'm used to SATB or SSA harmony. This was (in order of high to low) tenor, lead, baritone, and bass. Tenor was too high for me, which is such an odd thing for me to say! I'm the girl who sings tenor when there's not enough men in a chorus. I could sing lead, but I wanted something different than normal melodies. Bass was too low, which is also a weird thing for me to say. I have a good, strong, low voice... just not that low. So, baritone it was.

I read music. I've been reading music since third grade. However, it was always in treble cleff. Baritone (and bass) is written in bass cleff, so when I saw what I automatically think of as a G, it was really a B. Needless to say, I was flat. A lot. We also didn't learn with a piano like I'm used to. We learned from one person in the section singing it a few times, and the rest of us joining in.

We're learning two songs - We are the boys from Old Florida (which is really hard to sing without feeling to need to wrap my arms around the people next to me and sway) and The Star Spangled Banner. And while I wish I could learn songs I don't already know, I think they chose those songs so people would only have to learn music, not words.

The last time I did a summer singing program, we sang a Catholic Mass. In Latin. To two different choral arrangements.

So, it was interesting. I don't think I'd like the group full time, but it's a nice way to pass some free time during the summer.

There was one woman there who worked backstage with me in The Wizard of Oz, and another woman who looked dang familiar (and me to her, too) but I couldn't place her. There were lots of new people, too.

If y'all want to come to the concert, I *believe* it's July 31. I won't be hurt if no one shows up. But it would be fun to put your arms around your neighbors and sway.

This amuses me

My TV died. I turn it on and get snow. I have since been told this is a $100 fix, but I thought, hmmmm... let's see if any of my coworkers have TVs they no longer want. So I posted on the bulletin board that I would bake cookies for someone in exchange for a TV.

I've gotten SIX TV offers so far. (though three are 19" and too small for my needs.)

I think it must be my cookies. :)

So, I can create icons if pictures, but I can't do it out of creativity.

And I needs me a romance or writing icon.

Anyone want to create one for me? Y'all know you have tons of time on your hands. :)

I don't need heaving bosoms and half-undressed men (unless it's JA). I'm thinking hearts and pencils.

Beat LA! Beat LA!

From Peter King's MMQB on cnnsi.com today:

e. I might watch some of the NBA series. At Fenway the other night, the crowd started the "Beat L.A.!'' chant, and it got pretty loud. People are into it.

Okay, my little Celtics - you blow a 20 point lead again, and I'm not going to be happy. K? K.
