| Feed me, Seymour! |
[Jul. 6th, 2009|09:25 pm] |
Okay, so, I'm hosting Bunco next month, and I need to cook something that will feed 12 people.
The first time I hosted I did a breakfast for dinner thing - blintz souffle, bacon, fruit, and muffins - and the second time it was all finger foods.
What should I do now?
A lot of the folks do Mexican, as making chili is easy peasy. Lasagne is also popular for the same reason. I want to do something different. It doesn't have to be easy, but it does have to be easy to eat.
Ideas?
I'm thinking of that garlic sausage thing I just posted on Louch's journal... http://community.livejournal.com/geekcooks/89898.html#cutid1 Maybe with some rosemary bread? And salad??
Anyone have something else? |

| computer glue? |

The frame around my monitor on my laptop cracked.
Is there any kind of glue or something I can use to keep it from breaking any more? |

Oh, Flist (except Cristine). Your lack of salad-making abilities disappoints me.

I think Oscar was just hanging out and watching me on my computer. He's moving around now, and got really excited when he saw his dinner. |

Oscar, our new betta fish, is doing a pretty darn good imitation of a statue. He's floating in the water in the exact same location in the tank and the only thing moving are the fluttery fins near his head. Is this a bad thing? |

Is there a male equivalent to asking someone to promise something? Or is promise good enough?
Like, would a guy say, "Say nothing of this to anyone." and the other guy stays silent, and the first guy says, "Promise."
It sounds kinda girly. I just changed my dialog anyway, but now I'm curious.
On another note - I ordered my tickets yesterday to see Charlaine Harris! Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!! Now I just need to find a hard back copy of Dead Until Dark with the old cover intead of the TV-tie in cover. I hate that. I hate when a book cover changes to reflect a TV show or movie. HATE it. |

| recipe quest |
[Jun. 24th, 2009|11:55 pm] |
Okay, FList... I'm looking for cool summer dinner recipes, and by cool I mean I don't have to use a stove (unless it's for, like, leftover chicken or something). I want to avoid pasta if possible, but if you can't resist because your cold recipe is so awesome, then bring it on.
Simple is always good. Complex not as good, but still acceptable. :)
Whatcha got for me? |

| crock pot chicken |
[Jun. 24th, 2009|09:07 pm] |
Thanks, penguinicity, for the weird post alert.
What the post was SUPPOSED to say is this:
I planned to make lemon chicken in the crock pot yesterday.
Only I had no lemons.
Or lemon juice.
I *did,* however, have a bottle of Italian salad dressing.
Thanks, heathrow , for the yummy recipe! |

It just makes me sad. :( I didn't know him well, but I know people who knew him well and I'm sad for them and sad for his family and just sad. :(

| Oh, and... |
[Jun. 13th, 2009|09:48 pm] |
On the radio on the way to Jax, I heard the Police song "Every Breath You Take." Right after that was the Pina Colada song.
A song about obsession, and then a song about cheating on your SO.
It humored me. |

| | annoyed | ] | The Jax chapter of the RWA meets today. I drove myself, singing along to the songs on the radio or in my head. I get to the meeting and pull into a parking space, but I have the wrong angle, so I try to put the car in reverse.
The important word here being "try."
It finally goes into reverse, I think "that was weird," and back out a bit. Then I try to put the car in drive.
You guys sensing a pattern?
So, I'm half in a parking space, my car won't shift into drive, and I move the gear shift as if that will help. The gear shift moves, it just doesn't switch the gears.
Four of my RWA compatriots come by, and they push the car into the space to get it out of the parking lot road. But I can't put the car in park and it keeps rolling backwards - I was on a bit of an incline. So I put on the parking break and they stick paperback books under my tires to keep them from moving. Creative women, these were.
I call my MIL (she lives in Jax) and she finds me a mechanic who's open on Saturdays. AAA tows me, and now I'm in the lobby, waiting to shell out $275 for them to fix the gear shift cable. *sigh*
I never did get to the meeting.
And how was your Saturday? |

Saw Up. Didn't really like it. The boys did, though.
Okay, the graphics were really cool. And the comic relief was funny. But the overall story? Not so much.
lomer , I don't know if I should blame you for this or not. :)
Spoilers ahead! I dunno, I guess I just didn't believe the story and it left me unfulfilled. And I'm not talking about moving a house with thousands of helium balloons. The beginning was really sad!! A miscarriage and death?? Dreams of exploration that never happened? Then later Carl changes his plans too easily and doesn't have any compulsion about doing it. AND his hero when he was 12, I'm guessing was, at the YOUNGEST, 25 years old. So, say Carl was 60 when the story started. That would make Munz 73??? Please.
And while I can accept dogs being people (like, serving food and stuff like that), it was never said that Munz was a technological genius that could create talking dog collars. I would have rather just had talking dogs.
K, I'm done now. |

| Yes, I am a grammar geek |
[Jun. 2nd, 2009|03:37 pm] |
I got a note from after school with a list of field trips that are scheduled for the summer. It's on the fridge.
I copy edited it.
I fixed the spelling for PROMPLY and deleted the word SHARP (WE WILL LEAVE PROMPLY AT 7:15 SHARP - and yes, all caps). There were no periods. Commas were used wildly and freely. Parentheses were not used correctly.
I just couldn't stand to look at it any more. |

For wedash and anyone else who wants to join:
Karaoke, 9:15, at Alley Katz on Friday, May 29.
I'm including a disclaimer here - I consider myself a fairly decent singer, but CANNOT sing decent karaoke. So listen at your peril. *grin*
