Trivia! [Jul. 16th, 2008|10:46 pm]

[mood | tired]

I've been going to Kazbor's for Wednesday Night Trivia. 'Tis fun.  The group I'm with usually places in the top three, though usually with no help from me.  :)

I rocked tonight, though - lots of pop culture questions.  Lots of baseball, too.  I didn't do so well on those.

So, for your amusement, here are the questions I remember.  Can you answer them?  Don't look 'em up!

1.  How many home runs did Josh Hamilton hit during the first round of the Home Run Derby?
2.  Who sang "Girl You Know It's True?"
3.  Where did the Yankees play before Yankee Stadium?
4.  Where do the Devil Rays play, and what were its other names?  (Three names total)
5.  What three states were independent republics before joining the United States?
6.  Who was the hero in To Kill a Mockingbird?
7.  What emperor leagalized Christianity?
8.  What Great Lake is the smallest in surface area?

...more if I can think of 'em.

I read this in a book about mostly-unknown historical tidbits:

The Supreme Court ruled that the state of Missouri cannot discriminate against the Ku Klux Klan when it comes to groups that wants to participate in the adopt-a-highway program.  The state erected a sign proclaming that stretch of highway was being cleaned by the Ku Klux Klan, and renamed the highway the Rosa Parks Freeway.

for [info]aberrant1:
I had a dream the other night.  I was the omniscient presence instead of actually being in my dream, except for my feet.  I don't remember much about it, only that you were the main character and it involved a guy named Tom Smith (yeah, go figure - only he didn't die).   Plus my feet made an appearance, but I don't remember how or why.

I really wish I remembered it.

Okay, still new at diving into the world of iPods.

Anyone want to recommend a (free) podcast for me?  My interests are all superficial.  :)  I don't want politics, save the world, sports, video games.

So, whatcha got for me, peeps?

Can anyone tell me why some people answer their cell phones so they can ask if they can call the caller back?

If you can't talk, let it go to voicemail!

I went to a friend's house the other day.  This is a woman who I've seen only casually, but we decided to finally hang out.

When I got there, she offered me some "water or iced coffee."

I was so startled, I started to laugh.  I swore she was about to say ice tea.  I haven't been offered iced coffee since I moved south of the Mason Dixon line!!  If I hadn't known she was from New York, this would have been a dead giveaway that she was a Yankee.  :)

I have this silver flower necklace that I've worn countless times.

Today, THREE people (who have seen it many times before) told me how much they liked it.

What, was it invisible before?    :)

I is a commercial! [Jun. 30th, 2008|12:19 pm]

[mood | chipper]

I was a walking iPod commercial over the weekend.  The song Let the River Run has been going over and over and over in my mind, so I put on the headphones and listened to it while doing a lyrical dance in my kitchen.  All I needed was my shadow to dance with me.

I've only had the iPod for a week or so, and I finally got around to organizing my playlists in iTunes.  So I plugged in my iPod and it synched.  I unplugged it.  Then I realized I hadn't completely charged the battery.  I cleared the checkboxes on all the songs so it wouldn't automatically  synch my iPod again.  And it didn't.  It erased everything on my iPod instead.  Which I didn't discover until I went to listen to tunes at work today.

*sigh*

What do you all use for song organization?  And how to I get iTunes to stop trying to figure out what I want on my iPod?

[mood | amused]

At the beginning of June, someone asked me for a document. I forgot to change out the copyright page, which she mentioned in an email. I responded with *facepalm* and the corrected document.

About two weeks later, she thanked everyone for their help on the project, and included this: If I have forgotten to name anyone in this “village”, please accept my apology for the oversight. I’ll express a new term I learned - *facepalm*.

Hee. I taught her something new!

THEN I got this: No one else in the room that day knew what it was, so we Googled it. I told my 20-year old daughter the story that afternoon on our way home and her reply “You don’t know what that means?!? I use that all the time. Geez, Mom, you’re so old!” I wanted to tell her to get out of the car (and I wasn’t going to slow down first).

You know, I'm really not surprised that no one in that office knew what it meant.  But it was still funny.  :)

stupid modern weapons [Jun. 25th, 2008|10:44 pm]

[mood | tired]

I can choreograph a fight scene with weapons.  Swords, quarterstaffs, fists, it's all good.  I could even choreograph a death if I had to.

But I'm trying to write a fight scene where a gun will make an appearance, and I can't do it!!!  Gah!!   And someone has to die, but I can't decide if he dies by gunshot wound, knife wound, or strangulation.  I think gun makes the most sense, but I'd much rather they were using swords.

na na na na... hey hey hey... GOOD BYE!

WHAT AN AWESOME GAME!!!  Broke the 1975 record for most steals, ties the record for most three point shots (as of the time of this post), and goes down in history as biggest NBA finals blowout EVER.

GO CELTICS!!!!!

Man, the crowd is ROCKING!

I need an object in a bedroom that is big enough to hurt someone if said someone gets hit with it.  It needs to be easily grabbed (so, no taking apart the headboard).

I don't want to use a vase, though I can.

I'm thinking alarm clock.  Maybe a jewelry box?

.37:  You fight back from a 14-pt deficit in the fourth quarter but you CAN'T PUT THEM AWAY???? BUTTERFINGERS.

OKay, 25 seconds left, more time than the shot clock, but down by four.  It's not looking good.

Take off the damn sunglasses, Jack.  You're inside.

Five point game.  .8 second difference between time clock and shot clock, but Celtics ball.

.16:  Bye, Ray.  Thanks for the sacrifice.

Good god.  How long does it take to play 40 seconds of basketball???

Okay, well, it would have been nice to win in five, but I'd rather they win on their home turf.

BEAT LA!  BEAT LA!!!
